Sen. Johnson Defends Yankton’s Honor

Remember the Justice Department’s ad that read “If you commit a gun crime we don’t just send you to prison, we send you to Yankton!” We’ve been trying to find the guy or gal who wrote it, but they don’t seem to want to return our calls.

Meanwhile, Sen. Tim Johnson discovered the outrage. He lambasts the DOJ in this blistering letter for dissing our nice little city. We thank the senator. I wonder if he could help us find the ad writer? We just want to play with him a little … maybe invite him out for a visit. That’s all.

Kadoka’s A Long Way From Tucson

I came home from the Black Hills via Highway 73 through Kadoka, and then down Highway 44. About 10 miles south of Kadoka, this giant metal Sagauro cactus stands alongside the Highway, surrounded in the distance by badlands. It’s the work of metal sculptor Brett Prang, who ranches on nearby Swift Horse Road. Readers may recall that we featured his art in our March/April 2005 issue — but this cactus is something new. The Sagauro symbolize the Sonora Desert in southern Arizona. That’s a little south of Kadoka.
