The flap dates from a workshop of the School Committee's finance subcommittee last week, when Gleason offered suggestions for cutting $1.1 million from the budget to conform with the $31.4 million allocated by taxpayers at the special Financial Town Meeting last month.

Since the workshop, Lusi said in a statement issued on Tuesday, she has learned that the Sea Fare Inn does not serve breakfast. But it does allow the East Bay Educational Collaborative to use its facilities free of charge for professional development.

While some of the professionals who attend these sessions are served lunch, the cost of the meals is borne by fees paid by nonmember school districts who send educators to the meetings, or by private grants supporting the professional development, Lusi said.

"While this arguably needs to become higher over time, I would point out that this same level of co-pay was just negotiated in Middletown for their new contract - a contract that received positive reviews on the editorial page of the Newport Daily News."

Residence Inn Portsmouth: Traveler Reviews

My husband, 14 yr old son and I stayed in a 2 bedroom suite on July 23, 2005. We loved it! The hotel appears to be fairly new, everything clean and sparkling, and in a quiet setting that is easy to drive to. Each bedroom had a queen size bed and private bath. There was a living area between the bedrooms with a sofa, chair and kitchenette with dining table. TVs in each room (total of 3), plus WiFi! There is an exercise room (we didn't try it but it looks cramped) and an indoor pool (which we would have tried but had no swim suits with us). They also offer breakfast which consists of make-your-own pancakes, cereal including hot oatmeal, muffins, fruit, juice, good coffee (with milk, skim milk and half and half offered), etc. Staff was friendly but not intrusively so. Plenty of parking. Shopping mall and restaurants nearby. For the money (we paid $269/night), I would really like to see more of these types of rooms offered. They are great when travelling with kids, but hard to book because there are so few available. We would definitely stay here again.

Stayed in a two bedroom suite at this hotel on Friday 3/19/05. It wasn't huge, but it was comfortable for six adults to stay. There were two bedrooms, two baths, and a pull-out couch. The staff was very friendly, and in the mornings there is a 'hot' breakfast which was very good (eggs, waffles, plus standard continental fare). It has convinced me to stay at more kitchenette type hotels - price was reasonable, and very convenient.
