Tourists, it seems, have the general impression of English pubs as smoke-filled old tavernas, where smelly locals grunt monosyllabically at each other whilst cradling filthy pints of warm beer. It is a shame that such an impression of the fine old British Boozer continues to perpetuate, especially given that things have now changed – warm beer is very rarely now served.

However, for those of us who continue to have the misfortune of drinking room-temperature brew, there is now a solution. This tough, clear acrylic mug incorporates an internal bag which is filled with a freezable liquid. A couple of hours in the freezer and this mug can handle even the most revolting of lukewarm beers, chilling your drink a few precious degrees, or keeping your already-cold, fridge-fresh lager at the perfect temperature. No longer must the masses suffer the ignominy of serving their guests deliciously chilled beers, only for the sun to do its evil work and render these perfectly-chilled pints curdled and undrinkable.

The Joys Of A Cold, Frosty Mug

I recently got 4 root beer mugs at Culver's and have been keeping them in the freezer, ready for action. It's amazing how much better the soda (or do you say "pop"? "Coke"?) tastes in a cold, frosty mug. Especially the diet stuff. One of the real joys of summer . . .

I have to agree with PJ. On the one had I do think the openness is admirable. And the fact that Movable Type allows the trackbacks says allot about the basic nature the company has. However, if it were not for the trackbacks and seeing the fact that many other people held the same concern as I did about the new license, I might have considered waiting 4 or 5 months to see what type of free version they might produce and if I could get around the license issues. However, that is not the case and from the trackbacks I have more faith that if I were to break out of movable type now i wouldn't be loosing much because it seems many other people are doing the same. So from a Business point of view, unmoderated trackbacks are not a good idea.

Sweet Home Chicago

So I flew everyone into Chicago for company meetings last weekend. While everyone was in one city, I figured it would be nice to have a group portrait done for marketing materials. I called on Neil Burger of Stronghold Photography for the job, and I’m very pleased with the results.

If you have ever read Brave New World, you might remember Aldous Huxley’s vision of a future in which all newly devised sports would require more elaborate mechanical and electronic equipment than previous existing recreational activities. This was a matter of public policy aimed at promoting consumption and driving economic growth.

That said, even Huxley couldn’t have possibly conceived of Whirlyball. It’s a bizarre and violent hybrid of lacrosse and basketball played on bumper cars. It seems to me the most quintessentially American sport ever devised, as it requires roughly $100,000 worth of equipment and 11 kilowatt-hours of electricity per game.
